Did 6 easy miles in the rain and snow. Temperatures were mild though (mid 30s) and the run was not bad. I feel a bit of soreness in my left knee that I hope goes away with additional moderate training. Right now my goal is just getting more consistent so that I am exercising nearly every day for at least 30 minutes.

Ran with Lizzy, my 12 yearl old daughter, at the BYU track for 3 miles. We kept a leisurely pace of 9:30 min/mile though Lizzy was quite exhausted by the end. The pace was pretty good for me as my left knee was still rather sore from last week's training.

Katy, my 15 year old daughter, was going to go with us but got caught up in a Science Fair Project with one of her friends.

Lizzy was quite the trooper. I had fun hanging out with her. I think with time she will get to liking the running for running's sake. Right now she is running to get in shape for Soccer season.

Ran with the kids at the BYU track with Lizzy and Alex. Alex, 7 years old, surprised me running all three miles and leading the pack for the first two.

Once again went running with the kids at the Rec Center. I would have gone for much longer but Lizzy had sledding plans with a friend. We initially went to the BYU track but found out that it was closed for a BYU  track team practice.

Alex led the pace for the first mile at just below 9 minutes. He tired quickly at that pace and for the second mile, he would wait at the start/stop line until we got out of site. He would then sprint the entire lap and catch us by the finish.

Lunch workout - Ran 3 miles on a treadmill at the gym at work.

Started out at a 10min pace for the first half mile moving to a 9:30 pace then an 8 min pace by the end. Did several reps of leg curls on a weight machine after the run.

Felt good to be moving. I don't have any pain in either of my knees.

Ran on the treadmill at work. Pushed the pace to average around an 8:00 min pace. It was tiring, but felt good to be able to go at that pace for that distance. After I get the speed dialed in, I want to start upping the mileage. Unfortunately, 4-5 miles is the outer limit of convenient lunch hour workouts.

Ran 4 miles in Las Vegas with Lizzy. We were in Vegas for Katy's soccer tournament. The temps were great - in the mid 40s at 7am. We were running at about an 8:30 pace which was pretty fast for Lizzy. She's a trooper though. She doesn't say she likes running, but she continues to get out with me. It's fun spending time with her.

I haven't seen any blog entries for a while. Are you still planning to run the Moab half marathon this weekend?

Wayne picked up Paul and me and we drove up to meet Larry at the parking lot at Deer Creek Dam. We ran along the gravel trail on the north side of the reservoir from the dam up to the train station in Midway.

The weather was perfect, with partly sunny skies, moderate temperatures, and just enough of a breeze to keep us cool. I carried a bottle of water and dropped it about 4.25 miles out.

There is a nice variety of uphill and downhill along the route, climbing ridges and dropping into small valleys in between. The combination of running on gravel and all the uphill and downhill made the run feel more like an 18 or 20 mile run than 16. The pace wasn't fast, about 9:30/mi overall, but it was a great workout.

Got out at 5:45  this morning and was rather surprised to be the only one. It only serves me right since I have been so inconsistent. I was up till 1am last night and I thought of heading back and catching a few more Zs but decided that it was better that I run.

I ran the old Monday running route through Lindon. I actually had a wonderful run at a moderate pace. The temperature was perfect, the birds were singing. All was right with the world.

Hopefully the guys will be out for a run tomorrow morning.

Ran 16.5 with Larry, Wayne and Paul from Trefoil to Utah Lake. I actually diverted at the mouth of the canyon and ran home because I promised Katy I would get out for some miles with her. She was going to get out early with the rest of us, but she couldn't wake up when I tried to wake her. We did 7 relatively quick miles up Provo canyon and back. Liz went with us also. All in all, a a good day for running with just amazing weather in the 80s - unfortunately, a bad day for home projects as I did not get anything else done.

Did get out with D to celebrate our 19th anniversary. In some ways it is hard to believe it has been that long. I don't feel like a newlywed, but certainly don't feel like an old-timer.

Ran the water tank hills with Larry, Wayne and Paul. Paul was "tapering" for Saturday's race and would not chase me up the hills. I summitted 1:10 before Wayne and was pushing hard but holding just a bit back in case someone tried to challenge me up the last hill. On the way back, we picked up the pace for the last 1/2 mile or so at around a 6:05 pace. Paul, of course, was ahead at a 5:50 pace.

First run in over a week thanks to a fairly nasty cold.

Ran from the mouth of Provo Canyon on past Vivian towards South Fork Park. Larry, Wayne, Paul, Stacia, and Jeremy all started off together.

I was able to only go 13 to get back in time to leave for a Soccer game in Bountiful with Lizzy.

On the way back I ran several miles with a guy visiting from Boston. He was a recent BYU grad that is working for PWC but wanting to move back to Utah. Nice guy and it helped the miles go by quickly. After he turned around, I picked up the pace to average about 7:30 for the 6.5 downhill miles.

So the site timed out on me over the last hour. Oh well - the short and dirty version is this:

Ran up City Creek and over to Federal Heights area of SLC over by the SLC Cemetery. Temps were in 80s. Run was somehow 80% uphill though it was a loop.

Average pace was 7:50. Not great, but about where I am right now.

Hey Joe cool

It was grat to see you today(Tues.)

How long did you type before you were timed out?

Will you be out for the water tank hills tomorrow?

From Paul T on Tue, Sep 16, 2008 at 12:46:18

I hate it when I lose a long entry! Sasha has added "Save Draft" buttons that you can click periodically while writing a long entry. I'm in the habit of clicking Ctrl-A (select everything) and Ctrl-C (copy to clipboard) before I submit any entry. For long entries, like race reports, I'll even open Notepad and paste my entry into it periodically. This is because one time I had a long entry backed up in the clipboard but when I went to paste it (Ctrl-V) I accidentally clicked Ctrl-C which overwrote what I had in the clipboard.

If you come out tomorrow, and we both feel up to it, I may be willing to charge the hills with you. Last Wednesday I set a new PR of 15:05 from the bottom of hill #1 to the top of hill #5. I may try for sub-15:00 tomorrow. It's been dark lately and I've worn my headlamp, but if the moon is like it was this morning, it might be lit pretty well.

From Kevin Jessop on Tue, Sep 16, 2008 at 13:04:47

Larry - Most of my entry was done in the last 10 minutes of the hour and a half that I had the window open.

Paul - I should be there to run the water tank hills. I do pretty well on hills but it's likely that you will blow me away.

Ran the normal Tuesday route up 2000 North with Larry, Paul and Wayne. Got a late start and didn't catch up with the crew till they were well up the big hill.

Legs were actually still tired from yesterday's noon run up City Creek.

Took Dash out for a cool-down lap around the block. He was REALLY excited to be out with Ozzie and Skittles.
