Larry, Paul and Wayne got out with me. Temps were around 30 - not too bad, not great. About halfway through, on a downhill transition to a flat stretch, Paul decided to push the pace a little for a half mile. I was pleasantly surprised to see that our pace was 7:25/mi.

Lindon 4 Mile

Got out with Paul on a cold and windy morning. I was well dressed for it but my face was a bit cold still. Pace was 8:41 per mile. Not fast, but pretty good for this time of year. Paul claims he could not go much faster but I know better. He will kick my butt in any race no matter how well I do training with him.

Hope to qualify for Boston this year but I have a lot of proving to do (with consistent running) to make it. I hope to go sub 3:15 though my qualifying time is only 3:30. I would love to run a marathon with a finishing time that begins with a "2" but I am not sure I will have time for that kind of dedication this year.

Had a gd run

Was in Cache Valley to take Katy to a USU Music College audition.

Had a good run up Logan Canyon. Temps starting out were great at 40 degrees.  Didn't seem steep going into canyon but I did feel like I was working pretty good. Coming back felt awesome with a nice downhill. Near the turnaround point he weather was terrible. The temps bad dropped and there was swirling snow and wind. I had a hat on and I pulled the brim down tight over my face as I descended. By the time I exited the canyon, the sun was out and the temps were once again at 40 degrees.

Lindon 4 Mile

Ran solo with Dash this morning because Paul's sick. I got out late and decided to make it a short, quick run. The course is fairly flat and I ran it averaging 8:00 min/mile pace. Not too impressive except that I ran the first mile in 9:00 minutes, the second (slightly uphill) at 8:30 pace, then a 7:40 mile and a 6:50 mile. I only felt fast the third mile because of the slight downhill but even though I felt slow, I knew I was pushing the pace pretty good for the last mile because I was working so hard. I feel I shouldn't have to work this hard to run such mediocre mile splits. It is faster than I have been running in the last 18 months though.

I can always tell I am running faster than average when Dash starts lagging behind me. I was pulling him most of the last two miles.

I bought Lizzy some new running shoes yesterday and hopefully she will get out with me later today to try them out.

Ran solo with Dash in pretty good weather. Temp was at 36 degrees and it was light by the time I finished. Just took it easy and averaged 8:50 min/mile for the course with no real fast nor slow miles.Didn't see many people out running. I was wishing that I had borrowed Lizzy's ipod to run with. Music would have been a nice addition to a dark solo run.

Weather today is supposed to get into the 60s. That should be great. Maybe Liz will run with me later after her US History Exam.

started out with Wayne, Paul and Larry. The first 6 miles were quite easy as we ran from the neighborhood up to Nunn's Park in Provo Canyon. Paul and Wayne turned back to catch up with Larry. Paul suggested that I would catch them easily but I knew it would be a challenge because I was covering an extra 2.5 miles which would take me an extra 20 minutes or so to complete at an 8:00 pace. To make matters worse, the trail was not maintained beyond the parking lot at Bridal Veil park and so even though I was running at an 8:00 min pace (when I was running), it cost me an extra 2 minutes to carefully walk through some really icy sections where I almost turfed it even at a snail's pace.

Anyway - from where I turned back, I soon switched sides over closer to the highway and ran 3 miles at about a 7:15 pace. From there, I pretty much gave up at catching the other guys and struggled to maintain a 9:00 min pace from then on in.

Pushed a 9:00 min/mile pace on the way out and a 7:50 pace on the return. It wasn't till I turned around that I realized that it was a light uphill grade the whole way north. Averaged 8:20 min/mile overall

We woke up to a couple inches of snow on the last day of April. We ended up going 2.4 miles. We were all planning to help out with the neighborhood cleanup project at 9am.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning...finally.  I met Wayne, Paul, Larry, and Larry's wife Jolene at the mouth of Provo Canyon for a long run.

Larry and Jolene stopped to turn back at Bridal Veil Falls. Paul, Wayne and I continued on. We had realized the Provo City Marathon was running down the trail this morning until we saw some of the mile markers. We didn't know what time they were starting or how many runners there would be. We got to Vivian Park and talked to some volunteers at the aid station there. The marathon was going to start in about 10-15 minutes at South Fork Park. We were planning on 14 miles and still had a little over a mile to go to get to 7, so we decided to risk it and head on up South Fork Canyon.

At mile 7 Wayne said he wanted to push on to 8 for a 16 mile run and Paul and I decided to join him. Not long after we saw the lead marathoners coming around a corner. We moved to the far side of the street and stayed pretty much out of the way. There weren't as many runners as we thought there might be and they passed by us pretty quickly. The race had just started so they hadn't spread out very much yet.

We continued on to the 8 mile mark, averaging about 9:42/mi for the 4.2 miles of uphill after Bridal Veil.

I pushed ahead at about Bridal Veil and ran the next 3 miles about a minute per mile faster than Wayne and Paul.

Paul had to get back to help clean the church at 8:00am so we started at the mouth of the canyon at about 5:45am and maintained a pretty steady pace throughout the 12 miles.

The splits up were: 8:42, 8:50, 9:06, 9:10, 8:48, 8:52

The splits down were: 8:22, 8:24, 8:03, 7:55, 8:08, 7:44

Average pace: 8:30/mi

Wayne, Paul and I ran the 10 miles from Trefoil to the mouth of the canyon.

We started out at a comfortable pace. Our first 4 miles down South Fork were 8:26, 8:23, 8:11, and 8:00. After we all made a bathroom stop at Vivian Park (yes, the flush toilets are finally! open), I was feeling pretty good and we gradually picked up the pace a little.

Backpacked in 4 miles to our campsite in Canyonlands N.P.

We stayed at the beautiful Murphy's Point on an amazing overlook. See here to check out the view: http://kevinjessop.com/2011/06/11/lizzys-sweet-16-in-moab/

The hike in was not 4 miles but  I forgot my camera and sat my pack down and literally ran back from the one mile point along the trail to go retrieve it.

Backpacked in and out of a couple of places in Canyonlands and also rode the Intrepid Trail out by Dead Horse State Park on mountain bikes.

All in all I am estimating a conservative 10 miles of running-equivalent activity.

Was down in Moab with my girls and we hiked a vigorous 4 miles in and out of the Water tower trail in southern Moab down below the Slickrock Bike Trail.

The 1 mile of "threshold distance came from running/racing up the sand hill by Arches N.P.

Than is an experience one does not easily forget. A lot of fun though.

Hiked 10 miles with my boys through a rather challenging out and back down in Bryce Canyon. The route was not so bad but the addition of backpacks made it much more difficult.

My calves were feeling it for 2 days afterward.

Feel terrible for not having logged my miles in over a month's time. I have taken off a couple of weeks but have not been gone as long as the holes in my blog would indicate.

I logged a very enjoyable 5 miles with Dash leaving at around 7:30. Should have gone earlier with Paul but was just too tired. Dash was loving the run and had an extra bounce in his step as we ran today. I was feeling more tired than usual though I am sure it is a direct result of my 2 week hiatus. I managed to run around a 8:45 pace though it was very tiring.

Tomorrow I get to hit the hills with Paul. Hopefully he is still feeling tired also and will not push it too hard.
